I’ve recently celebrated a birthday, and was lucky enough to get quite a few bottles of the good stuff. As a starter for 10, here’s The Balvenie -Doublewood, 12yo.
Of course, it’s not yet opened, but it is one i’ve tried before at a whisky tasting event and liked it very much.
So, what can i expect from this when i do open it?
Well, the Balvenie website (http://www.thebalvenie.com) tells me: over its period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask which kind of makes sense with the name.
On another note, it’s a very traditional looking whisky – box and label through to website -but also with a clean approach to the design. Looks good. But it’s the taste that counts..
Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.
Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
Long and warming.
