A small amount of debate was held on Saturday evening as the alcohol kicked in. Despite a planned visit to Islay later this year, we still feel the need to feed the Obsession further. It may even mean further investment into bottles, perhaps a cask..
Being based in Yorkshire, we need to plan this carefully. Quite a drive awaits us so we need to optimise our time. Needless to say i was taken back by one of the suggestions..
“Let’s go find some Bourbon…”
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to Bourbon. Or Whiskey. Or Rye. In fact, it was Bourbon which first got me on the Whisky trail, and my shelf proudly holds several bottles – and not that famous square ‘sippin’ stuff from Tennessee.
Maker’s Mark – now there’s a fine drink. Spicy and warm, it’s a particular favorite at Christmas time. If I’m feeling a bit more rough and ready, Fighting Cock is there to knock my head off. But there’s so much more I want to try, and this is all part of the Obsession;
Buffalo Trace, George T Stagg, Sazerac Rye and Willet’s Reserve Pot Still. And that’s just the start.
Needless to say, in the sober light of day, plans have been revised, and a trip on our very own shores awaits. Perhaps Speyside, perhaps UK..? Who knows yet. A trip to the US of A will have to wait for a while. For now, I may have a glass of Bourbon (no coke thank you) and consider shorter journeys.
